Macro Social Work Internship Opportunities 

The SWAG Alliance Foundation offers macro-focused internship opportunities for MSW students interested in leadership, workforce sustainability, nonprofit development, community engagement, and systems-level social work practice.

 

Our internship experience is designed for students who want exposure beyond traditional direct practice settings and are interested in understanding how advocacy, partnerships, programming, professional development, and organizational leadership impact the helping professions and the communities they serve.

 

SWAG Alliance Foundation is committed to supporting the sustainability and wellbeing of helping professionals through education, workforce initiatives, professional development opportunities, and community collaboration.

Internship Focus Areas

Interns may gain experience in areas including:

 

  • Workforce sustainability initiatives

  • Nonprofit leadership and operations

  • Community outreach and partnership development

  • Professional development programming

  • Event planning and engagement

  • Communications and social work advocacy

  • Leadership wellness and burnout prevention

  • Training and CEU support

  • Systems-building and organizational development

 

Responsibilities

 

Intern responsibilities may include:

 

Community & Professional Engagement

  • Responding to social work licensure support inquiries

  • Following up with prospective community partners and collaborators

  • Supporting relationship-building efforts with organizations and stakeholders

  • Assisting with workforce and community engagement initiatives

 

Communications & Outreach

  • Assisting with newsletters and email campaigns

  • Supporting social media and community communication efforts

  • Helping promote trainings, workshops, and events

  • Assisting with outreach tracking and follow-up systems

 

Research & Partnership Development

  • Researching organizations, foundations, and collaboration opportunities

  • Assisting with sponsorship and partnership outreach

  • Supporting program and workforce development initiatives

 

Program & Event Support

  • Participating in committee meetings, board meetings, trainings, and events

  • Assisting with CEU training coordination and support

  • Supporting event logistics and engagement efforts

  • Introducing trainers or sharing information about SWAG initiatives when appropriate

Administrative & Systems Support

  • Assisting with organizational workflows and systems

  • Tracking outreach, engagement, and communication efforts

  • Helping organize documents, forms, spreadsheets, and internal processes

Internship Expectations

Interns are expected to:
 

  • Communicate professionally and consistently

  • Attend scheduled supervision and check-in meetings

  • Follow through on assigned tasks and deadlines

  • Demonstrate initiative while remaining open to feedback and support

  • Maintain professionalism during meetings, trainings, and community interactions

  • Represent the mission and values of SWAG Alliance Foundation professionally


This internship is best suited for students who are organized, proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in evolving community-based environments.

Time Commitment

 

  • Approximately 16–18 hours per week

  • Combination of virtual meetings, independent work, and event participation

  • Some evening event participation may occasionally be requested

Please note: This internship is designed for students interested in macro, leadership, nonprofit, workforce, and community-based social work practice. This is not a clinical therapy placement.
